Children’s Kodály Choir
Camp:
In this one-week camp, talented young singers have the
opportunity to improve their vocal skills, learn Kodály choral techniques, and meet other
student musicians. They will study with Ms. Elaine Quilichini, work with
teachers in the WSU Kodály Program and learn quality choral music, with a final concert on
Friday evening, June 13th.
Eligibility: students
will be chosen based on their teacher’s/choir director’s recommendation (no
limit). To be eligible for the choir camp, the student must be 10-14 years of
age and have an unchanged singing voice.
Cost for day campers: Total
cost for day campers: $175.00 (includes tuition, camp T-shirt, office charges, entertainment,
lunches and snacks)
Housing and additional meals not included.
Additional fees for resident campers:
Transportation to and from Wichita State is not included. Local
students may choose to attend as day campers.
Housing: $95.00 - Students will be housed
Sunday night through Thursday night in air-conditioned Wichita State University
dormitories (double room of same-sex child) with qualified in-house counselors.
Single rooms can be reserved for an additional cost.
Meals:
$60.00 - breakfasts and dinners, beginning Sunday dinner and ending Friday
breakfast (Lunches and snacks are included in camp tuition).
Total cost
for resident campers: $330.00 ($175.00 regular camp
tuition + $155.00 double occupancy housing and additional meals)

Daily
activities:
The choir
camp begins on Sunday afternoon, June 8th and will conclude with a recorded
concert on Friday June 13th. Throughout the week, students will be involved in
choral rehearsals, musicianship and enrichment opportunities, as well as daily
recreational activities. Teachers and directors are not responsible for
pre-teaching music learned at camp. There will be a talent show on Thursday
evening and an emphasis on fun all week long!

Choir Camp Schedule
How to apply:
Choral
directors, teachers and parents should accurately complete the attached
application and send with $25 non-refundable deposit, per singer (checks payable
to WSU College of Fine Arts). Mail to: Judith Fear, WSU Children’s Kodály Choir Camp, College of Fine Arts Institute, 1845 Fairmount, Wichita,
KS 67260-0071. Registrations will be accepted until the limit is reached or until
Monday, May 21. Final payment of $150 (day campers) or $305 (resident campers)
will be due on June 1. Students will be notified of acceptance upon receipt of
registration
Conductor: Elaine Quilichini
Elaine
Quilichini, one of North America’s premier directors, founded the Calgary Girls
Choir in 1995 to provide a unique choral music experience with world-class
instruction and performances. Since then the choir has received international
acclaim.
Originally from
Saskatchewan, Ms. Quilichini also directs the University of Calgary’s Women’s
Choir. She made her debut as maestro at Carnegie Hall in 2003, conducted
her choirs at three National Conferences of the American Choral Directors
Association, conducted the Texas All State Women’s Choir, and was twice the
National Conference Choir Director for the Organization of American Kodály
Educators. She was a member of the Alberta Choral Federation’s Board of
Directors, and a recipient of its ‘con spirito’ award for her contributions to
the choral art.
Ms. Quilichini is the Artistic Director of the Nebraska Wesleyan
University’s Summer Choral Program and guest conductor of the 2005 Nebraska
State High School Honor Choir. She is the conductor of summer programs at
the Kodály Music Institute, New England Conservatory in Boston, and conductor
of summer choral programs at Wichita State University, and James Madison
University. She also recently joined the faculty of the International
Summer Academy of Choral Conducting and Music Pedagogy, Canary Islands.
In 2007 Ms. Quilichini will be the choral program’s guest lecturer at the
University of Sao Paulo, Brazil and guest conductor of the International High
School Honor Choir in Osaka, Japan.
